Lund University profileThis conference is organised within the framework of a multi-year research project that examines the legal dimensions of carbon capture and storage at sea. The project investigates legal obstacles to sub-seabed CO₂ storage, the allocation of liability in the event of leaks during transport and injection, jurisdictional questions surrounding applicable legislation, and the legal classification of CO₂ under international maritime and environmental law.
The research engages with a broad range of instruments, including the London Protocol, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, the EU CCS Directive, and the OSPAR Convention, with the aim of identifying regulatory gaps and opportunities for harmonisation across these regimes.
This research project and conference are funded by the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation (Marianne och Marcus Wallenbergs stiftelse), which supports research of high scientific potential in the social sciences. The project has received a grant of SEK 7.8 million.
Selected contributions from the conference will be considered for publication in an edited volume with a leading international publisher. Further details regarding the submission process and editorial timeline will be communicated to presenters following the conference.
